I. County Library. G. Bibicescu, founded in 1921 by I. G. Bibicescu, a man of culture and governor of
the National Bank (1914-1924), contains the richest library collection
donated by a Romanian (about 40,000 volumes ? books and periodicals). I. County Library. G.
Bibicescu has 250 branches established in Mehedinti, Banat, Ardeal, Bessarabia, Bucovina, but also in
America in Cleveland. It currently comprises about 300,000 library units. Its national prestige
continues to be illustrated by the patrimony and bibliophilia collections, mostly coming from
Bibicescu's donation. So at this point the I.G. County Library. Bibicescu is the most
representative gender institution in the south-western part of Romania.
