The town of Drobeta Turnu Severin is located on the left bank of the Danube, at the exit of the river from the gorge, in the Subcarpathian depression of Topolnita.
The city plan is a rectangle with a length from east to west, arranged on a slightly inclined plateau, from north to south. At the highest point in the city, the altitude is 104 meters, and the lowest point is located near the train station, where the altitude is 48.75 meters from sea level.
Severin is located in a temperate continental climate zone with sub-Mediterranean influences, with sunny summers and mild winters that provide conditions for the development of specific vegetations, such as almond, fig tree, bat, linden and chestnut or exotic trees: magnolia, Caucasian walnut, Ginkgo biloba – the oldest species on the globe.
